1999://flamedfury and the rest

Where it all started. Summer of 1999 on some free webhost I can't even remember now (probably cjb.net). "Flamed Fury and the Rest" in its first incarnation, a couple of magazine scans. The design was as rough as you'd expect from a teenager with no design skills and a lot of enthusiasm. Pixel dust, lost to history.

1999://flamedfury ultra v3.0

The kertiz era begins. I met him on the #sweeet IRC channel and he took pity on my design skills, offering to redo the whole site. fitty-two joined shortly after. v3 was the first proper design Flamed Fury ever had, the moment it looked like someone who knew what they were doing had touched it.

2000://flamedfury ultimate v4.0

Community era. Still on sweeetnet, but by v4 we had our own IRC channel running where regulars and visitors would hang out. Scans and videos started coming in from people who'd found the site. Flamed Fury wasn't just a site anymore, it was a hangout.

2001://flamedfury 2k1 edition

Peak crew era. We'd moved over to smoovenet.com by now after sweeetnet shut down, with smoove picking up a few of the sites that needed a new home. Magazine-style layout, contributions from kertiz and fitty-two, and a vague plan to be the next big lifestyle site for teenage boys, lol. Then the dot-com bubble burst, the advertising money dried up, and the IRC crew started to drift apart.

2002://flamedfury 5 the return

Tried to keep it going by myself after the crew scattered. Designed this one without kertiz's help and it shows. I bounced around a few hosts run by people loosely connected to the old Simpsons and South Park fansite communities before eventually going on a long hiatus.

2003://flamedfury wasted youth

November 2003 was when Flamed Fury became a blog in the way I'd recognise the format today. Posts about polytech, nights out, whatever was going on. This was the "Wasted Youth" era, and it ran until 2005 when I parked the site and went on hiatus.

2020://flamed.nz fLaMEd's home on the Internet

The move that got me back into personal blogging. flamed.nz was my home on the Internet for a couple of years, built on Hugo and hosted on Netlify. A stepping stone before I came back to flamedfury.com in 2021.

2021://flamedfury 2021

After a long detour through other domains, a barbeque niche blog I came to absolutely loathe, and a few years of trying to be "more adult," I came back home to flamedfury.com. This was the first Eleventy build, hosted on Neocities. First time the site had felt like itself in nearly two decades.

2022://flamedfury 2022

Iteration on the 2021 build. The site grew into itself this year, with the collections (music, books, beer) finding their permanent shape and more of the IndieWeb plumbing baked in deeper.

2023://flamedfury 2023

Another refinement year. Visual polish, performance work, and the side projects (recordshelf conventions, bookmark pipeline, beer fridge) maturing into the patchwork of corners that defines the site today.
