Credits
Not much on the web is made from scratch. This page is where I credit the people whose work ended up on my site, mostly the 88x31 buttons on the home page, but also the foundations the whole thing is built on.
If you spot something of yours here that isn’t credited properly, let me know and I’ll fix it.
Header art
The Britney and Christina TV wall inspired by the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, was made for this site by Americas Decline.
Buttons and badges
Made for this site
Some things I wanted on the wall never had an 88x31 made for them, so I made one. The Caddy, bunny.net, Marginalia Search, and Napster buttons are mine, built using each project’s own colours. The logos and names belong to those projects, not to me.
From vale.rocks
The Forgejo, HTML, CSS, RSS, Markdown, and Progressively Enhanced badges come from Vale’s 88x31 collection, a set of buttons designed and dedicated to the web. Vale also takes requests for badges that would be generally useful, which is a lovely thing to offer.
From the archives
The mIRC and WinZip buttons came from 88x31.nl, and the Neocities, ICQ, and 800x600 buttons from The 88x31 GIF Collection, which is sitting on more than four thousand of these things. Both are archives of buttons from the old web, so the original artists are mostly lost to time. If one of these is yours, I would genuinely love to know.
Collected along the way
The Firefox and Winamp buttons have been picked up over the years and I no longer have a record of where each one came from. Same offer as above.
Built on
The site runs on Eleventy, starting from Eleventy Excellent by Lene Saile, which I’ve been pulling apart and rebuilding ever since. The layouts follow Every Layout and the CSS is organised with CUBE.css. Code blocks are highlighted with Prism.js.
There’s more detail on how it all fits together in the colophon.
