Now that I've read a few of her books, I'm a big fan of Emily Perkins. This was her first novel published in 1998. The story is about Daniel, who arrives in New Zealand during a drug smuggling operation and how he struggles to survive in a new country with no money or opportunities. It also tells the story of Kate, a 20 something who is struggling to figure out what to do with her life. Their lives intersect, they take a roadtrip, they hook up. Great story.
