Site Updates

  • I backtracked my last updated and moved my Gaming PC History to its own page, Gaming PC History. Like most of my best ideas, this happened while deep in thought while walking the dogs.

This has also given me thought to how I would like to re-organise my growing collection of pages into their own writing section. This would mean an update to my navigation.

Anyway, there's always something to work on, don't forget to sign my guestbook.

  • 12 September, 2022: I've made an update to the Gameshelf edit I've created a new page that details my Gaming PC History. I've sat down and taken a trip down memory lane, recollecting all the PCs I've built over the years.

Writing this page took longer than I thought, but it has been a fun exercise.

I wish I had records of our PCs between 1996 and 2005. I think we had 1-2 family PCs before I made enough money from website ads around 2000, and I could afford to buy PCs for myself.

Anyway, the page is long now. I will look at dividing the sections into individual pages later this week.

Give the page a read and let me know what the first PC you remember building was in my guestbook.

  • 05 September, 2022: Yesterday was father's day down this side of the world. I spent the day with the family doing various activities. I was excited to receive a new pair of Air Force 1 shoes, the first pair of shoes I've got since the pre-COVID days.

The day's highlight was in the afternoon. I got to sit in the lounge to enjoy a couple of big beers and listen to two records end-to-end. I don't get to do that often. While having a rare streak of time to do stuff, I also managed to sit down and fix the guestbook so that it matches the updates to the homepage styles I've made over the months.

If you have a moment spare, head over and sign it and let me know what you think.

  • 24 August, 2022: I'm still here, just occupied with everything except my homepage. I have made some changes to the writing on the Comic Book, Recordshelf, and Bookshelf pages.

I am looking forward to doing something substantial soon. I noticed that the menu icon for the mobile layout looks funny; if you know how I can fix it, send me an e-mail.

  • 19 July, 2022: It's been easy to not run out of stuff away from the computer lately.

I've updated the Vinyl Collection page to add new new records that arrived today, both Czarface. Czarface debut album from 2013 and Czarface, MF Doom – Super What? which released 2021. Looks like I'm up to 30 in the collection now, wow!

I still have a to-do list item to take a photo of each record and stop hotlinking discogs, lol.

I think that I've managed to fix the API calls on the Bookshelf page from Oku. Added currently reading, and want to read sections as they were avialable as part of the API.

  • 16 July, 2022: I was never sure how I was going to handle or record updates to the Gameshelf page so figured this would be the best place to do that.

I have an aging RTX 2080 Ti graphics card and am running Pop!_OS as an operating system.

The graphics card had been giving me a lot of grief lately where it was hitting 86°C while gaming which caused the fans to spin up to over 4000 RPM which was really loud. I spent some time yesterday and took the card apart to have a look.

The thermal paste that comes stock from the factory was very dry and very sparse, I'm not sure how much contact was actually being made. Secondly, the thermal pads were not in a great state either.

I spent a couple of hours removing the old thermal paste and pads and cleaning the components before re-applying new paste and pads.

I'm so glad that I did this as I was able to game with the graphics card sitting between 65-75°C and fans at an ideally 2000 RPM.

Second to that, I was able to get Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy running with the latest Nvidia 515 drivers and GE-Proton7-24. Happy with this as I've been wanting to play this but wasn't able to until now. Looking to finish this up before Season 4 of World of Warcraft kicks off.

Looking forward to my 2080 Ti working for a little while longer before I'm able to build a new PC.

  • 14 July, 2022: That took a bit longer than I anticipated but I'm happy with the final result. Might not be noticible but have tweaked fonts, font sizes, spacing and managed to handle both base and page template layouts in the single css file. The base template uses a grid layout and the page template uses a flex layout, all the same html elements.

The new navigation doesn't use javascript, and works on all pages, but there are some issues on the page layout where the breadcrumbs are 3 links deep where they cover the hamburger on smaller screens.

Other than that I don't expect to make any major changes until the new year where I'm hoping to get a new design done!

  • 01 July, 2022: Hey, have been doing & dealing with a number of things away from fLaMEd fury recently. The days fly by. Have made some minor changes. Have plans to revamp the front page along with the CSS backend. I will be keeping the graphics and colours. Noticed that the API used for the bookshelf has changed again, will need to take a look to fix that. Scenequeen has kindly made a new link button, check it out to the left.

  • 05 May, 2022: Hey, have updated the Vinyl Collection page to include details of my record collection. Album covers, varients, numbered limited editions and some thoughts on the release. Check it out.

  • 21 Apr, 2022: Quick update that I have updated my subpage layout. The new layout removes the sidebar, including the menu and link buttons. I have included a breadcrumb navigation at the top of the page to let you know where you are within my homepage, with links back to the parent page(s).

The other new feature is a fluid typescale for my heading elements. This allows the font-size to scale based on the window size. Should look good across desktop, tablet, mobile views.

I'll start working on applying my new stylesheet to the index page, which will keep it's current layout, with some minor style tweaks.

Let me know what you think.
